Having cancer may seem like the end of the world, but it can begin an entirely new era to your life and the friends you meet will form a lasting bond. Everyone who experiences cancer and chooses to use chemotherapy as a form of treatment will experience similar situations, to a certain degree; the sometimes intense feelings are normal and you must realize that you are not alone. You may feel fatigue, have mood swings, and feel no urge to eat. A support group can be the best activity to get into at this time. They have been where you are now.
One activity that has very beneficial rewards is spending quiet time in your favorite place; doing something that you enjoy can help you cope with the sometimes intense feelings you will experience. Breathe slowly or listen to soothing music. This may help you feel calmer and less stressed. Music can change your entire mood.
Another activity to try is light exercise. Join your group for a walk through the park and get outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and fresh air. Taking a walk through the park and sitting down for a picnic can be great! Many groups practice exercise outdoors in the parks, such as yoga or Tai Chi.
The regular support groups have really changed from what people believe them to be. They are more outgoing and believe that healing includes the entire person, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, as well as physically. These groups are there to give you all the help that you need to get through this difficult time.
