With cancer being so prevalent today, it is not uncommon to hear of someone you know going through chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is the most common treatment for most cancers. It is a treatment that leaves the patient sick and not feeling well. Chemotherapy is very hard on the body, and can take quite some time to get back to feeling normal after each treatment.
People that know someone going through chemotherapy treatments should learn how to be there for them. They need to know how best to support their friend or loved one through the treatments, so that the patient can get through them smoothly. Chemotherapy treatments can wear a person down mentally, emotionally and physically. Offer to go with them to their treatments and be a designated driver so that they do not have to worry getting home. Be a good listener, as they may have a lot to get off of their chest. You can be something of a therapist for them, but just remember to keep conversation on the bright side. Cook them meals and offer to run their errands for them, such as picking up groceries and their medications at the pharmacy.
The most important thing you can do for a chemotherapy patient is to be there and stay positive. Sometimes the patient may not want to talk at all, but a bright, positive presence is sometimes the best medicine. By staying steady in your support you can help your friend or loved one make it through their chemotherapy treatments.
