Prostate cancer is a disease that varies across the world. Prostate cancer is considered to be the most common in the United States. Several factors can put you at a higher risk, such as age, race, family history, diet and sedentary lifestyle. These risk factors are increased after the age of 50 years old in white men and after the age of 40 years old in black men. However, about two-thirds of prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men who are 65 years old and older and prostate cancer occurs 60% more in African American men than American white men.
Men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer may deal with certain symptoms like frequent urination, difficulty starting or maintaining a steady flow of urine, having painful urination or possible blood in the urine. Prostate cancer may even cause problems in sexual function and sexual performance, which may be difficult for a man to get an erection or it could cause painful ejaculation.
Prostate cancer does have several different treatment options for men to choose from, but certain men may not be suitable for some of these treatments. Treatments for prostate cancer may include surgery, radiation therapy, which uses high-energy rays used to damage the cancer cells, hormonal therapy, cryotherapy and watchful waiting. It is suggested that all men do some kind of research to see which treatment is best for them. In the mean time, all young men should help prevent the chances of getting prostate cancer by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising on a regular basis.
