How to Care for an Ill Pet

Animals are very good at hiding their symptoms when they are ill. A pet owner will notice a difference in their pet's daily routines first. Don't pick them up and just love them, first take them to the veterinarian. Symptoms like lethargy, disorientation, weakness in body and especially the legs, weight loss, no appetite and others, can be a sign of something more serious.

After coming from the vet and getting the proper advice and medicine needed, be sure to let your pet know you love them. There's nothing like love to improve a pet's resilience. If you work outside your home, be sure to pick a compassionate person who also loves animals to sit with your pet.

Preferably someone the pet knows. Before you call the veterinarian, take the animal's temperature. In both cats and dogs, a normal temperature is between 100.5 and 102.5 degrees F if taken in the rectum, and 100.0 and 103.0 degrees F in the ear.

Loving a loyal pet is so easy. In fact, it has been shown that having a pet in the home gives the elderly a reason to get on with their day and people can live longer. Their antics bring laughter where no joy existed before. They inspire compassion, love, loyalty and fun. If a loving pet becomes sick, take care of its medical needs. Love and care for your pet as you would any other family member.
