Making Yourself Aware

Cancer is a dreaded word in every household.  It is not something people like to talk about, but it is something that we should all become familiar with and try to help find the cure for.  Learn the facts and try to be a part of the cure, even if you are not affected by it because someday somebody you know could become diagnosed with it.

Metastatic cancer is when the cancer has spread from its original place.  The most common places that this happens is in a persons bones, the lungs and the liver.  X-rays can determine if the cancer has spread, but there are generally some signs that may help to signal if the cancer is spreading.   If it has taken over the liver a person may experience jaundice. Jaundice is when the skin turns a yellowish color.  If it has spread to the brain, you may experience frequent headaches, unsteadiness and dizziness.  If the cancer has spread to the lungs a person may experience a shortness in breathing and chest pains.  If the cancer is in the bones, you may experience easy bone breakage without even a major injury. There is support to help ease the pain.  There are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that can help with severe pain.  A loss of appetite is not uncommon so a medication called Megace can help you to want to eat again.

Knowing the facts and things that can be done about it can definitely help you or a loved one to try and beat the cancer.  Finding a cure for the disease is the ultimate goal and we can find away with support and research.  Be part of the cure, even if you aren't directly affected by this cancer.
