Dealing with an ill pet is similar to dealing with any other member of your family; the family pet is just as much as a responsibility as they are a pleasure to have a round.
Your family pet can contract some of the same illnesses your family can and many of their own. Since your pet(s) can not tell us how they are feeling, we have to watch for signs. Each illness has its own signs, but the most obvious is how they are eating; if they are eating, if they seem lethargic, if there is any diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the stool and difficulty walking then there is probably something wrong. Your pet is good at hiding their illness, so it's up to you to watch your pet(s) to see if anything unusual is going on.
Keeping the family pet fit and healthy is also important. Just like humans, the family pet needs regular check-ups, regular exercise and a balanced diet. There are several very good pet foods; ask your veterinarian for any suggestions he might recommend. There are now several cities that have parks just for your family pet, so you can give your pet time to socialize and exercise.
There are several websites you can go to for information, but it is always best to keep in contact with you veterinarian. It is suggested you contact your veterinarian with any concerns or signs you might observe. With technology and with early detection, your family pet can live a long full life.
