Chemotherapy - a Killer and Friend

Chemotherapy is associated to cancer, a malignant cell that grows wild, metastasizes and damages the entire body cell mechanism. It can become deadly if not treated cautiously, but aggressively.

There are many different types of cancer and each has its own treatment.  Chemotherapy is one of the treatments used by the medical profession. It may be the best option and last hope for a successful outcome to the deadly disease.

Chemotherapy is the use of chemical drugs designed to attack and destroy cancer cells. It may be one or a combination of drugs given through a vein using IV infusion, in pill form by mouth or by injection. Chemotherapy is considered a systemic treatment as it kills the cancer cells far removed from the underlying area of growth. It cannot distinguish the good and bad cells. This causes low red and white blood count as well as hair loss. The uncomfortable side effects such as nausea and vomiting can seem intolerable to the patient. Medicine now has the technology of eliminating many of these side affects by preventing or controlling them. In some chemo treatments the patient experiences little or no effects.

Understanding how the side effects react to the body will enable the patient to achieve a successful treatment. To get the most benefit out of chemotherapy is to regiment a schedule plan and faithfully abide by it.

Chemotherapy is specifically aimed at killing cancer cells and returning the patient to the best health options that are available. Through dedicated efforts of both doctor and patient this can be achieved; weighing the goals and risks as a twosome partnership which can bring lasting results, enabling one to live and enjoy the fruits of all effects involved.
