First-Time Grandmother

When a woman finds out that she is going to be a grandmother for the first time by her son or daughter, a flash of emotions can go through her, from "I'm to young to be a grandmother," "my baby isn't a baby anymore," "what will the baby call her?" or just pure excitement and more.

After the initial shock, the first time grandmother may think of names for the child to call her, whether it will be nana, granny, granny grunt, mee-maw, mum, mimi, gma, meme, or grandma and her first name or grandma and her last name. Will she be there for the mother-to-be and father-to-be during the pregnancy and the birthing process. She will need to help with the baby shower planning and invitations, food and games. Do they have questions and do they need help? Make sure the mother-to-be takes care of herself by taking her vitamins and eating right.

After the baby is born all new emotions set in. Looking into the tiny baby's eyes and seeing the true miracle that God has made. The tiny life in grandma's hands is part of her child and their spouse. Then when mother and child come home, will grandma help pick out the home trip outfit? Will grandma be there for the midnight feedings and diaper changes, helping the new parents? Will the grandma be there for some of the first for the child and for the new parents? Grandma can be there and then send the new grandchild home when she gets tired.
