Bake An Easy Delicious Cake

Almost every cook loves a recipe that is quick, simple, and easy to clean up. Here is a recipe for chocolate cake that is mixed up right in the pan, no messy bowls or mixer beaters to clean up. No need to oil the pan either.

Wacky Cake

Sift into an 11 X 13 inch pan:
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons soda
6 tablespoons cocoa

Mix very well and then make 3 holes down the middle. Add 3/4 cup salad oil into one hole, 3 teaspoons of vinegar in another hole and 2 teaspoons of vanilla in the last hole. Pour 2 cups hot water over everything and mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

For a vanilla cake, omit the cocoa and double the amount of vanilla.

For a spice cake, omit the cocoa and add 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice.

For an orange cake, omit the cocoa and vinegar and substitute orange juice for the water.

For lemon cake, omit the cocoa and substitute lemon juice for vinegar. Also lemon extract can be added in the place of vanilla.

These recipes are great for one with food allergies such as dairy products because there are no eggs or milk. Anyone who watches their cholesterol, or is a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs, can now enjoy cake made from scratch. Frost with your favorite icing.

For chocolate cake here is a delicious recipe:

Brown Sugar Frosting

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
canned milk (enough to mike it not too thin)
1/4 pound oleo

Cook to a soft ball stage. Beat until ready to spread. Be sure there is no heat in the frosting. If it gets too hard and still has heat in it, keep thinning it down with milk, as sometimes it is cooked too long.
