Cakes past and present

History reveals that the first cakes were made in ancient Egypt. They were cooked on a hot flat surface made of stones. It was said that at this time it was hard to tell the difference between breads and cakes. But with time and modern technology, cakes have been revolutionized to the delicious desserts enjoyed by many people today.

The first cakes were flat. It wasn't until the use of eggs became popular that more height was added. The real thickness came when cooks started using yeast and baking soda in their recipies. Who knew that the cakes actually started out as flat piece of sweet bread? As years passed, cooks found easier ways to use cake flour, eggs, oil, sugar, butter flavor, and vanilla flavor to make what is know as cake today.

A lot of people today would not know that there are different types of cakes and different techniques used to make them. A few types are sponge, foam, butter, and chiffon. All of these have their own style in which they are prepared. Along with preparation, there are also a variety of ingredients that should be used for each type of cake. As with most recipes, they can be combined or changed to suit the individual's needs.

Modern day cooks have perfected many styles, types and different kinds of cakes. With any recipe, the more it is made, the better it will come out.
