Quick Healthy Breakfasts

It seems there just isn't enough time in the day. And when time gets tight, many people make the foolish mistake of skipping breakfast. But there are a number of quick, healthy breakfast ideas to start the day off right.

It's been said many times, but breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown kids who eat breakfast on a regular basis take in more nutrients, are less overweight, and perform better on academic tests than those kids who skip the meaningful morning meal. After going 10 hours without food, kids need a healthy breakfast in the morning to power the brain and body. Skipping it also costs a chance to consume valuable nutrients like protein, calcium, and fiber.

The ideal breakfast would include lots of complex carbohydrates to keep the body energized throughout the long day ahead. Protein, fiber, and a little fat are also welcome additions to any breakfast.

When it comes to preparation, keep things simple. A piece of whole-grain toast topped with some melted soy cheese and some cubed fruit would make for a delightful dish.

If you're tired of plain old oatmeal, swirl in some apple sauce and top it with juicy raisins and some chopped almonds.

If you need food on the go, you can whip up a nifty egg pita. Simply fill a whole-wheat pita with some scrambled eggs, some soy cheese, and maybe even a little salsa.

Or you could always opt for a breakfast parfait. Layer one cup of low-fat yogurt with some whole-grain cereal and some chopped fruit or berries. It's a perfect way to start the day.
