What Is A Grieving Process?

Some people have experienced losses of loved ones, others may be going through it for a first time, or you may be anticipating the loss of someone close in the near future. Whatever the case may be, there are many people who don't realize that there is an actual "grieving process" that takes place after a loss.

A person does not just grieve on the day they experience a loss. It goes far beyond that. If the loss is of one that has been sick for a very long time, their "process" may have even started months before the death. For some, the process is very traumatic, but brief; for others, it may be a very long process.

It is most common for everyone to go through crying stages. The stages that many people are not aware of are the extreme bouts of anger or hatred. The anger or hatred may be directed toward the deceased, God, or even other close relations.

The key is to get the anger out. Talk with someone close and release all of the feelings you can. Get the healing underway so that you function more normally in the other areas of your life.

Some people become extreme quiet, have mood swings or crying spells with no particular reason. These emotions are a normal part of the process. Some people hold everything in, and then months later, everything comes out.

Everyone is different. Try not to judge or criticize how someone is reacting. Be a friend, listen, keep them busy, get them to talk about the deceased. All of these things will help their "process" get underway and start the healing.
